How does New Media affect Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing?


New media


A generic term for the many different forms of electronic communication that are made possible through the use of computer technology. The term is in relation to "old" media forms, such as print newspapers and magazines, that are static representations of text and graphics. 



New media includes Web sites, Streaming audio and video, Chat rooms, e-mail Online communities, Web advertising, DVD and CD-ROM media, Virtual reality environments, Integration of digital data with the telephone, such as Internet telephony, Digital cameras and Mobile computing. 




What is Public relations? 




Public Relations, as known as (PR) is the way organisations, companies and individuals communicate with the public and media. A PR specialist communicates with the target audience directly or indirectly through media with an aim to create and maintain a positive image and create a strong relationship with the audience. Examples include press releases, newsletters, public appearances, etc. as well as utilisation of the world wide web.
New media pays an important role in Public Relations. PR specialists and firms use a number of tools to boost their clients’ public image and help them form a meaningful relationship with the target audience. To achieve that, they use new media tools such as news releases and statements for media, newsletters, organisation and participation at public events conferences, conventions, awards, etc.. PR specialists of course also utilise the Internet tools such as social media networks and blogs. Through the mentioned tools, PR specialists give the target audience a better insight into their clients’ activities and products/services as well as increase publicity.


What is Advertising?




Advertising is a means of communication with the users of a product or service. Advertisements are messages paid for by those who send them and are intended to inform or influence people who receive them, as defined by the Advertising Association of the UK. 


New media pays huge role in Advertising. Advertising is always present, though people may not be aware of it. In today's world, advertising uses every possible media to get its message through. It does this via television, print (newspapers, magazines, journals etc), radio, press, internet, direct selling, hoardings, mailers, contests, sponsorships, posters, clothes, events, colours, sounds, visuals and even people (endorsements). 


What is Marketing?




Marketing is the way companies interact with consumers to create relationships that are beneficial to both parties. Businesses use marketing to identify their audience before advertising to them. Today, this is most visible through social media interactions and contests. It is the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.

Most users especially consumer and target audience are involved in the presence of new media and most of us fully utilise new media among our lives. Through new media, marketers could have full access to new media users and research on people's behaviour, fondness and what people nowadays prefer or things they do now like in order to understand what the market nowadays need in order to achieve marketing goals.
